The mind of the left is a fascinating thing to behold. For a party that prides itself on being “progressive” and “liberal”, they certainly embrace tyranny and oppression with an alarming lack of irony. Not only have they adopted this “government must either provide for ‘free’ or force a largely unwilling populace into behaving a certain way” mentality, but they’ve also managed to completely contradict their most gleeful of talking points with the straightest of faces. We should put leftists in a lab and study them.

Groundskeepers are going to be very busy the next few weeks with all the turning over in their graves our founding fathers are up to after today’s Supreme Court decision on Obamacare. It’s clear to even the least literate among us that the compulsory purchase of insurance is wildly unconstitutional and indeed, SCOTUS agrees. Unfortunately for Americans who don’t wish to see the further collapse of our economy and further erosion of our basic freedoms, SCOTUS also ruled that the tax which was billed as not a tax is, in fact, a tax. And so, while the democrats tripped over themselves so recently to assure Americans that after we passed the bill to find out what was in it we’d see it was in no way a tax, it is apparently exactly that.

What does this mean? If you’re not one of the twenty million Americans who will lose your current insurance of choice, your premiums will increase dramatically. If you’re one of the approximately 27 million citizens who will remain uninsured even after the federal government has mandated you must purchase health insurance, you will see increasingly oppressive financial penalties. In 2014, if you’re found to be in violation of Lord Obama’s dictate, you’ll be penalized $95 or 1% of your income, whichever is greater. This means that a family bringing home a mere $50,000 a year will be “taxed” five hundred dollars. By 2016, if you’re still clinging to the freedom of choice the democrats pretend to be in favor of and have opted not to purchase health insurance, you’ll be “taxed” $325 or 2% of your income. Keeping with the $50,000 family example, a 2% “tax” will cost one thousand dollars. Moving beyond 2016, if you’re this family making $50,000 a year and still insist on living in the freedom our founders knew was our birthright, you’ll be “taxed” $695 or 2.5% of your income which translates to twelve hundred fifty dollars.

Furthermore, while democrats were busy shooting commercials depicting the Right pushing grandma off a cliff, they were busy championing this monstrosity that cuts medicare by 500 billion dollars. And while it will surprise approximately no one that the left is rabidly unconcerned with future generations, it is undeniable that Obamacare adds trillions to the already staggering national debt. The left may be cavalier about this horrifying fact, but the majority of Americans are not.

We must consider, however, that today’s decision has a silver lining. Firstly, it highlights the tendency of the left to flail in the political wind, using whatever terminology is expedient on a given day. It wasn’t a tax until it was a tax. This is a huge messaging issue for the Obama campaign. If they want to celebrate the SCOTUS decision, they must embrace their outright lie about whether Obamacare translates to a hulking tax increase. Such duplicity is obviously no trouble for these neo-Marxists, but we see through them. Indeed, 60% of Americans already agree that the “Affordable Care Act” is a gross violation of rights. Additionally, while the left is scrambling to pretty up the messaging, the fact remains that since Obamacare has been declared a tax, we have the power to repeal it.

November is coming. We are far from defeated. We continue to see the absolute destruction radical leftism wreaks on our way of life. We continue to realize the “hope” we were promised has turned into devastation both economically and politically. Rather than be discouraged, we should celebrate as we watch the left destroy itself. This is not to say we can become complacent, especially considering the dismaying thought of presumptive nominee Mitt Romney. But it does mean we must strengthen our resolve to return America to the Constitutional freedom she was founded on. It means we must fight harder to excise this cancer of leftism that is attacking the heart of our country. It means that “war” is not merely a rallying cry. It is a reality.
